GROWING UP, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SURROUNDED BY ADULTS WHO ARE CREATIVE IN SOME WAY. MANY OF MY UNCLES AND AUNTIES ARE AVID ART COLLECTORS AND A FEW OF THEM ARE ALSO ARCHITECTS. THIS AND BEING LUCKY ENOUGH TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD, EXPOSED ME TO A WIDE RANGE OF ART AND DESIGN. ALONG THE WAY, I NATURALLY DEVELOPED A KEEN EYE FOR AESTHETICS.
WHEREVER MY FAMILY AND I ARE LIVING, WE WANT OUR HOME TO BE COZY AND SIMPLE, YET TASTEFUL.
SOME OF THE ART & FURNITURE INCLUDED:
MAGRITTE PLATE -
A porcelain plate featuring a detail from René Magritte’s 1964 work, “La Grande Guerre”. Magritte is a Belgian surrealist artist and is known for challenging observers’ preconditioned perceptions of reality while depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context.
JEAN COCTEAU “LEX AMOUREUX” -
Jean Cocteau is known for representing the languid forms of his subjects in sketches and often used no more than five or six lines to produce a woman’s wavy hair, lips, or searching eyes.
CHAIR BY HANS J. WEGNER -
Also known as the ‘master of the chair’. I use this as my study chair and although not an ergonomic chair, I have to say it is very comfortable. Wegner created 500 chairs in his lifetime and when asked how he was able to create the ‘Danish style’, he responded that “it was a continuous process of purification and of simplification - to cut down to the simplest possible design of four legs, a seat, and a combined back and armrest.”
